Worktop fitted and weathered badly over a period of 3 years, chips and marks easily. Worktop ended up cracking right through. Catastrophic failure of product under non extreme conditions. Large radius cuts needed.

I have the maia 'worktop' if you can really call it that!...in cocoa. It's awful...I use wood or silicon mats where possible but grains of salt under a wooden board will scratch this surface!!! I asked Homebase for a no-maintenance worktop, I was not told that dark colours show scratches more and I was never informed about the maintenance required or the existence of the maintenance kit! I have been too low about the whole thing to try and formally complain! I did make an initial complaint to the store but that led nowhere, I shall though resume that process! If Sylmar supply these worksurfaces to companies I believe staff should be duty bound to inform the customer of the upkeep required.

From Neodesigns - kitchen designers and fitters. Sylmar supply 'Minerva' solid acrylic worktops. This material is not as scratch resistant when compared to Corian type solid surfacing which a composite of acrylic polymers and mineral ores. But the same rules apply in terms of colour choice.. darker colours are not as forgiving and as with all softer worktop materials you need to take greater care with knives and heavy metal objects. On the plus side, these softer sufaces are very easy to restore by using progressively finer grades of wet and dry papers with a random orbital sander. The joints are only as good as the fitters skills in bonding the joints using the approved resins and following the instructions. Equally important is the levels and stability of the carcasses it sits on. If the joints do come adrift, it's not the fault of the materials.
